CDAG: Refocus
3b – The Power of Collaboration in Faculty Professional Development
Kayode Arowolo, Northern College; Gail Murdock and Justin Pucci, Confederation College
Four years ago, a group of four Ontario Colleges came together to explore ways to collaborate and maximize resources. A modest proposal to support the Multi-College Collaboration Model was approved by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities to launch the project which has since been self-funded. Currently, there are five Ontario Colleges participating in the group.
After initial meetings amongst the Presidents and Vice-Presidents Academic and Finance where several initiatives were explored, it was agreed to focus on two areas: collaborative programming and collaborative faculty professional development. This presentation will focus on the journey and success of the professional development initiative.
For the past four years, these colleges have collaborated by hosting professional development sessions delivered synchronously via Zoom. The work is led by a committee of representatives from each college under the guidance of the Vice Presidents Academic from each institution. The sessions are delivered almost exclusively with resources from the participating colleges. To-date hundreds of faculty have attended the sessions and the feedback has been excellent.
Join the committee presenters to learn more about the power of collaborative professional development and the benefits to their faculty, students, and colleges. Participants will be empowered, through storytelling and discussion, to envision how they might form networks with other institutions to provide more robust and diverse faculty development experiences.
