2b – Mutual Mentors: Empowering Faculty to Engage in Professional Learning

Following tumultuous years of teaching due to the pandemic, college faculty are still feeling its effects. To support faculty through the rebuilding of their passion and purpose for teaching, St. Clair College is implementing Mutual Mentors as an opportunity for full-time professors to connect professionally with their peers. While professional learning is an integral component of the teaching profession, its success depends on faculty who seek out the support that best suits their needs. By providing this mentorship program, we encourage faculty to identify and refocus their problems of practice in a supportive space to strengthen and highlight their successes, especially as mid-career faculty are poised to be “current and future campus leaders” (Lunsford & Baker, 2023). Building from our College Educator Development Program (CEDP) mentorship component, mutual mentors will have the opportunity to meet more informally with the goals of offering mid-level career support in teaching and learning and reflecting on growth and development. This presentation will highlight our process for creating the Mutual Mentorship program, the response from faculty, and next steps moving forward.
