CDAG: Back to the Future

Plenary Session 1 Back to the Future: Building Relationships between First Nations and Post-secondary Institutions

Chief R. Stacey Laforme, Ogimaa, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation joined by panelist Carolyn Hepburn and moderator David Wolfman

This summer, the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and George Brown College signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding establishing the framework for increased collaboration and formalizing a commitment to work collectively and in the spirit of reciprocity. How did they get there? What are the benefits and expectations of the parties? How will success be measured? Chief R. Stacey Laforme, Ogimaa, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, will share his perspectives on this new partnership and advice for other post-secondary institutions seeking to create mutually beneficial relationships with Indigenous partners. The session will be moderated by Chef Professor David Wolfman of George Brown College, and Carolyn Hepburn, Dean of Indigenous Studies and Academic Upgrading at Sault College will add her insights to the discussion.
