CDAG Member Profile Feb 2025

Name(s):  Julie Sullivan
Role: Senior Learning Technology Facilitator
College & City:  Loyalist College, Belleville ON

If someone were to visit your college/city, suggest three “not to miss” sites.

Not to miss in Belleville is a visit to the Glanmore National Historic Site, a stop at Loyalist College for a delicious lunch at Nourish restaurant and take in a show at The Empire Theatre.

Howlong have you been a member of CDAG and what is one thing you most appreciate about the organization?

I only learned about CDAG about two years ago and became a member as soon as I was aware of the organization. The thing I appreciate the most is the access to Professional Development opportunities.

Can you briefly describe your current research projects?

My current research interest is related to the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL/PLAR). More specifically, research into assessment methods in a multidisciplinary approach, focusing on education, psychology, and organizational studies. Which tools, techniques, methods and/or frameworks are most effective for assessing prior learning?

If you could invite any living or historical figure to guest lecture for a course or keynote, who would it be and why?

I recently had the opportunity to see Bertie Gregory speak at the Higher Education Summit. It was ironic as I had seen a national geographic presentation of his work through IMAX on my summer vacation. He is an incredible visual storyteller with a conservation and education focus. His photography is incredible.

What project are you most proud to be/to have been a part of in your career?

I had the opportunity to lead a project to design a leadership professional development program that would be leveraged globally. It was such an interesting and engaging project to research, develop and deliver learning that was so impactful to others.

The Member Profile is a recurring feature of the CDAG website and newsletter. Julie Sullivan was one of CDAG’s Research, Innovation, and Scholarship (RIS) recipients in 2023-2024 for her work on “facilitating discussions on methodologies to support Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) initiatives and to foster a collective approach toward the refinement and advancement of educational practices.” You can learn more about the RIS awards and past recipients at CDAG: Research, Innovation, and Scholarship.
