Name: Jessie Paterson
Role: Curriculum Specialist
College & City: George Brown College, Toronto
If someone were to visit your college/city, suggest three “not to miss” sites.
- Visit our Chef School! They have a student-run café, Chef on the Run for readymade meals and desserts and then, for a fancier dining experience, The Chef’s House.
- Toronto has a lot of great urban parks, so wherever you are in the city, there should be one near you. I live in the west end and frequent High Park, Etienne Brulée and Samuel Smith a lot.
- The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) always delivers and is great for all ages!
How long have you been a member of CDAG and what is one thing you most appreciate about the organization?
I’ve been a member of CDAG for just over 9 years. The community is so supportive and collaborative. It’s always a safe place to land!
Describe your perfect curriculum development day in three words.
Building sustainable relationships.
What is your go-to snack during long curriculum planning sessions?
Anything crunchy. Cheese-puff-o’clock reliably hits here mid-afternoon.
What are you reading, and who would you recommend it to?
Our CDAG Learning Circle group is reading The Myth of Normal by Gabor and Daniel Maté right now. I would recommend it to anyone interested in the mind-body connection, as well as how environments impact our health. I’ve enjoyed connecting the book to learning experience design.
What project are you most proud to be/to have been a part of in your career?
Probably our UDL certificate, which many CDAG members were part of in different capacities. It was/is a labour of love, and I really believe in the work.
