Two-Eyed Seeing
Presenters: Jennefer Rousseau, Bow Valley College, and Bruce McKay, Coordinator of Indigenous Relations and Services at Northern Lights College in British Columbia
Date: May 19, 2022
Time: 12:00 – 1:00 pm
Description: Two-eyed seeing is the guiding principle of seeing the strengths of multiple perspectives in an interconnected and respectful way rather than as binaries or opposites. Shared by Mi’kmaq Elder, Albert Marshall, the word Etuaptmumk is a way to see the strengths of Indigenous knowledge and perspectives with one eye and to see the strengths of Western knowledge and perspectives with the other eye; then you learn how to see with both eyes together to benefit all peoples. In this session, participants will:
- Learn/Reflect about Two-Eyed Seeing.
- Understand the concept of Ethical Space.
- Identify how Two-Eyed vision can aide us in building dialogue and understand other world views and create an Ethical Space.
