6b – College-Wide Quality Assurance Framework for Experiential Learning: Follow Up
Chris Sinclair and Connie Winder, George Brown College
Experiential learning plays an important role in the achievement of vocationally-focused learning outcomes and the development of sector-specific skills in Ontario colleges; and access to these experiences can help to decrease barriers that might otherwise limit the opportunities of underrepresented student groups. However, experiential and work-integrated learning experiences offered at any single college differ in so many ways (e.g., content, timing, amount of time, setting, etc.) and can vary significantly in terms of the quality of the student experience. This workshop follows up on the implementation of a college-wide quality assurance framework begun at George Brown College in 2018. We will review the categories and criteria we developed, the systemic approach we employed and the ongoing challenges we face.
We hope participants will share their experiences and help us generate questions we would all like to explore further regarding the quality, benefits and challenges of experiential learning in the college system.
