The CDAG Executive is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2022 Award of Excellence: Mary Harrison, now Acting Director, Centre for Academic Excellence, Fanshawe College. The Award of Excellence was presented at the Member Update session at CDAG’s 2022 Virtual Conference in November.
The CDAG Award of Excellence publicly recognizes and celebrates individuals and teams who demonstrate excellence in the ongoing development and sustainability of curriculum expertise in Ontario’s colleges. Mary Harrison is the Acting Director, Centre for Academic Excellence (formerly a Curriculum Consultant) at Fanshawe College where she conducts and facilitates program review activities, promotes a culture of research and innovation, and consults on operational procedures at Fanshawe’s Centre for Academic Excellence. Mary is a versatile higher education professional with a background in research and theory, teaching, curriculum design, and quality assurance. Mary serves on numerous committees at Fanshawe, including the Research Ethics Board and the Academic Integrity Working Group. She also serves on interorganizational committees and groups in roles such as Chair of CDAG’s Research, Innovation, and Scholarship Committee. Most recently, Mary’s ability to expertly analyze, synthesize and communicate complex information was demonstrated within the CVS Guidelines Working Group where her guidance on revisions to the Guidelines will support curriculum developers across Ontario (and her valuable meeting minutes kept the group organized, focused and on task).
According to Greg Yantz, Dean, Academic Quality and Strategic Integration (formerly Director, Centre for Academic Excellence), Fanshawe College, Mary is a leader who works tirelessly to develop curriculum that prepares students for success. The impact of Mary’s commitment to academic quality lives through her work on processes, policies, and guidelines for Fanshawe and colleges across Ontario. When one needs a second opinion, guidance, or an able collaborator, Mary is the natural choice. Mary’s involvement with CDAG and other intraorganizational committees has made her a highly visible, approachable, and valuable collaborator to those at Fanshawe and beyond who look to Mary to share her expertise on academic quality.
